German did not come easy for me. I felt discouraged by my lack of fluency and frustrated that my grandmother didn't pass down her first language. For most of first semester I dreaded going to class because I was so nervous to speak. Fast forward to now, I would force my Austrian resident to talk with me in German despite her English being way better. This is a poem I had to memorize and read aloud in class,  I made my fluent friend record herself reading it so I could practice pronunciation. She would always say "You know you are a lot better at it than you think you are."

My french minor has been such a big part of my college career. I studied french in High School and I was pretty decent. In college, it was different. I started out in a 300 level and I was terrified. I struggled. But thanks to kind and helpful professor I made it through. Then I went to a german speaking country and took a year off. At first, both in Austria and in my FRN401 course, I jumbled words and wished I could just speak one instead of "mediocre versions" of both. Merci to Mme. Booth for showing me patience and letting me flounder just long enough to figure it out. This one  textbook brought me through it all.
